Procedimiento: After having had the usual warm up (singing songs about days of the week, months of the year, weather), I started telling them a story about five leaves. Lali, the leaf, Leli, the leaf, Lili, the leaf, Loli, the leaf and Luli, the leaf. I drew on the board five leaves without faces (kids would draw these leaves´ faces as I told them the story) and wrote down their names. We counted the leaves all together. ( I chose these names on purpose because I thought it would be easier for them to remember the word ´leaf¨ (all the names start with ¨L¨; I also wanted to work on spelling and in this way I would be able to make them practise all the vowels).
The story goes like this:
¨Hello, I´m Lali, the leaf. I´m very....... (I made a gesture showing them Lali was happy) so they said: Happy!! ¨Yes, I´m very, very, very happy because Autumn is here. I can fly, I can swim, I can jump, I can dance. I like Autumn !! ( I also made gestures to elicit the abilities) Then I asked one of the kids to draw Lali´s face. Then, I continued doing the same with the rest of the leaves.
¨Hello, I´m Leli, the leaf. I´m surprised! Oh, Autumn is here! I can ´t fly! ( another kid drew Leli´s face on the board.
Hello, I´m Lili, the leaf. I´m angry!! Yes, I´m very angry . I don´t like Autumn. I like Summer. In Summer, I can dance, swim, jump. In Autumn I can´t swim. It´s very cold!!
Hello, I´m Loli the leaf.. I´m scared!! Autumn!! Oh!! I can´t fly. I can fall down!!
Hello, I´m Luli the leaf.. I´m sad! I like Spring and Summer. I don´t like Autumn or Winter! I can´t swim, I can´t jump.....
(While I was telling them the story I made gestures showing them the different leaves´feelings and abilities and they provided the answer).
After having drawn the leaves´faces on the board, I asked them to pick up five real leaves from a bag and asked them to draw their faces. I told them: number 1 Lali. Lali is happy.
Number 2 Leli. Leli is surprised and so on and so forth ( this was a listening comprehension exercise like the previous one). Then, they stuck the leaves on their notebooks, wrote down the leaves´ names and I asked them to spell each leaf´s name.. After that, I asked them what the weather was like in their story. Some of them said: sunny, others, cloudy. I asked them to draw what the weather was like.
Then they had to tell the story themselves as if they were the leaves and after that they talked about each leaf. They also drew what each leaf could or could not do.(This activity was focused on oral production).
Resultado esperado: On the following class, I asked them to make up their own stories. One of the kids talked about five Pokemon´s friends, another one told us about five flowers´ story another one invented a story about five bears.
Opciones de adaptación: You can ask students to use Paint, Libre office / or even create a Power Point presentation based on the story or their own story.
